In the Fall of 2020, I worked as a UX design co-op at RBS, Ahold Delhaize. During my time at RBS, I worked on the meal ordering Kiosk application for Ahold Delhaize grocery brands. I worked with the product owner, stakeholders, and the dev team. As the primary designer for the project, I learned a lot about product strategy, developer handoff, design systems, and design precision.

As UX designer co-op
FEEDBACK FROM MY LEAD
"Aashna is a hard-working individual who goes above and beyond what is asked of her. I hired Aashna to join our new fully remote Innovation lab in June of 2020 as a UX/UI Design co-op. At the time, the design team had a lot of ongoing projects and Aashna never hesitated to take up more work. I could trust her to take on more than just her main project of the co-op and she did not disappoint. Not only was she able to design great user experiences and visuals, but she also collaborated with the development team, project managers, and other associates within the organization.
As her mentor, Aashna has never held back in suggesting new tools, software, or ways of working if she thought it would benefit the team. We are a young design team and she took it upon herself to help us set new standards and guidelines for future co-ops. Outside of her day-to-day design work, Aashna helped in the facilitation of Design Thinking workshops for teams within our organization. I was so impressed with Aashna's design work and dedication, that I was excited to extend her co-op with our lab. Anyone would be lucky to have Aashna on their team!"

WHAT I LEARNED
Convey complex ideas: The scope of this project was working with multiple different teams in different timezones. There was a lot of vagueness, strategic considerations, and possibilities for the redesign of this application. This challenged me to learn how to communicate complex ideas into easily understandable concepts and design decisions.
Projects can get messy: Lots of changes can make a project very messy. Each change should be paired with a metric we intend to improve. I learned to organize files for dev handoff and create design systems so that devs have easy access to assets and know exactly what modifications they have to make.
Be precise with your designs: Be cautious of padding and margins in the designs. Developers won't know what values to set if you don't. I learned to take the guesswork out of it and make the designs pixel perfect.
